Going on the Boats

On Sunday the week before Christmas my family and I went on the boat.  Some of us went fishing and diving and we played kubb on the beach as well. When we were on the dinghy we saw some little but fast sting rays in the shallow that's why I didn't go swimming at that beach. Here are some photos of us and our dog Meg.

My Metamorphosis Writing

Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis.

We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to wake up as a bee.

Here is my work.

Thursday Maths

This week one thing we have been  learning in maths is how to write expanded numbers. Another way of saying this is ‘expanded form’ or ‘expanded notation’. They all mean the same thing. It’s like you have to break the numbers up into their place value parts and then put + symbols in between them. Example:

7239 =7000+200+30+9.

Here is my work.

Going to My Grandparents - Recount

We had to write a recount, which included a simile, personification and adjectives about what we did in the past two weeks. Here is my work.

Going to my grandparents new house

BROOM! BROOM! My granny, poppa, cousin and I drove to their new house

where they got to live on Aroha Island. They have the whole island to themselves.

They are the caretakers for a few months because my granny is going to get surgery

in a few weeks so they can’t go on their boat. My cousin and I got to stay there for

the weekend.

CRUMBLE! CRUMBLE! The rock smashed into pieces like an avalanche falling

down a hill while we drove along the rocky road. The rocks jumped around the road

as if they were crazy rabbits. When we got to the building they lived in we jumped out

and ran inside. We ran into a room full of kiwi’s after putting our bag in the room we

were going to sleep in. It had two beds. I chose the bed closest to the door so it

wouldn’t be too dark. We ran down to the beach and started our hunt for crabs.

After a while my cousin yelled out I found a crab! She tried to pick it up with a

shell because she was too scared to pick it up with her bare hands. I picked it

up for her and put it in a little hole in a rock. The crab was as small as a tiny

baby mouse.

After a few minutes we had too many crabs for the hole so we had to move them

into a bigger home. We found a home big enough for them all to hide somewhere

and run around. We started to go back because it was getting dark and my granny

wanted to try to find the only two kiwi’s that live here. People call them Hayden and

Henrietta but they were two old to lay any eggs. We walked out to the garden place

where they like to go and sat down and listened to them calling to each other. We

couldn’t see them but we could hear them. I thought that the one that had the nice

voice was the female but then my poppa told me that it was the male calling.

Then I heard the female calling. It sounded like a dying duck that's

SCREAMING as LOUD as it can, it did not sound friendly.

After about 5 minutes we went back to the house and had dinner. We had spaghetti bolognese

but my cousin didn’t like mixts so she had scrambled eggs with avocados and tomatoes.

I thought it looked disgusting because the avocados they taste horrible. After dinner

we said goodnight to our poppa and granny then jumped into bed but we didn’t

have to go to sleep yet but after a while our granny came in and told us to go to bed

now so I hopped in my bed and fell asleep. The next morning me and my cousin woke up

and straight away started playing cards we play a card game called cheat it's like last card

but different a bit after playing card we had breakfast and play more card games but then

my granny got her tablet and then she had cameras all over the campground and the

road we played a weird game with the cameras and my granny was the bad guy first

he had to hide and watch her on the cameras she came in the house and we could

she her anymore I yelled out to my cousin that she was coming but then for some reason

my cousin came out of her hiding spot and got caught straight away then she told our

granny where I was and then she found me!

After about 2 hours my cousin's family came to pick us up. We said goodbye

and hopped in the car.

I wish I could have stayed there longer. It was fun and I had a good time there

but we might go there in the holidays!

Feathers

This last week my class and I walked around the school to find feathers for our writing.  We had to use different sentence starters, adverbs and adjectives to help us write about feathers. Here is my work.

Feathers

Feathers are soft and delicate like a kitten's fur. The feathers can be the colour of a little rainbow. Bird feathers on the wings. The body feathers are fluffy like a fluffy pillow. Feathers can be shaped differently, some can be big and some can be small. Feathers can be colourful, some can have plain colours, only black, white and grey. The feathers of a bird don’t have to be colourful to be pretty. Feathers can be dirty and have little bugs in them like fleas but you can’t see the dirtiness sometimes because the feathers are really pretty and decorative. Feathers from birds are all different colours, some are light and some are dark. All feathers are different. Feathers are light.

Project island song

Last week and this week me and my class had to write about our Project island song trip. I chose to blog about our Project island song trip. Here is my writing.

Project island song

SPLASH!!!! The waves crashed against the boat. We lined up to get ticked off to go on the explore boat. It was yellow and not as big as the other ones. I got to give some people hand sanitizer because I didn’t get to hold a plant that we were going to plant later. When we were all on the boat we went and saw some Islands on the way.

SPLOSH! SPLASH! The waves were getting bigger and bigger until the boat leaped up into the air! SPLASH!!! We all screamed and laughed as the boat leaped over the huge cold icy waves. The boat stopped and we got to the island. We all jumped off the boat and looked at the snapper swimming all around underneath us. The seagulls dived into the water while trying to get the tiny fish but there were only huge snapper and other fish.

Beeeeeep! We all walked down the bridge and sat down at our own little tables so we could eat our morning tea. Finally we were ready to do some activities. Kyle and Zavier did paper scissor rock. Zavier won and he was in my group so we got to choose the activity we wanted to do first. We all chose trap making. We had to make a rat trap out of wood and wire. After we could take it back to our school.

Bang! Bang! We were racing to be the first one to make their rat trap. I made my rat trap with Sienna M, Stella and Laylah. But Sienna M had to go take photos of everyone else but she still helped make the rat trap. Twist! Twist! We screwed the nails in and we were done! We got to colour it in and I drew a dead rat. The others were making leaves, flowers and birds so I wanted to make a flower next to the dead rat but it looked like a bunny rat because I made the ears a bit too long.

When we were all done we had some lunch and then we had to go on a long walk to plant some trees. We walked down a huge hill and all jumped over two fences and then each group planted a tree. I planted a tree with Sienna G,

Stella and Laylah and Sienna M was taking photos so she couldn’t be in our group. We were going to walk up a giant hill but we went a different way. It was very dangerous so we had to be very careful. When we got back to the cafe we all talked and then we had to go back to school on the explore boat. But we got to feed the fish at the last second!

Finally we arrived back to school and I waited for my mum at Oscar. I had a good time.
