Today we made koru art with Whaea Rose. My koru represents my little brother trying to touch birds flying in the sky. I really like the birds in my art work.
I am a Year 5 student in Team Moana at Ohaeawai School in Northland, New Zealand.

Title: Bridge Building
Labels: Writing, Science
We have been learning about forces and how they help shape the sort of bridges that we build.
We learned that there are three main types of bridge design; beam, truss and suspension. Using this knowledge we designed and built our own bridges.
Miss Fletcher set the challenge that our bridges had to be 30 cm long and strong enough to hold an object.
In my group there was Corrin and me. We used ice block sticks to build our bridge.
Here is a photo of our truss bridge. What I like best about our bridge is the triangle sides.

Speech Writing
For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was about saving endangered animals.
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think I need to work on having more expression and eye contact.
Here is my speech.
Why is killing endangered animals bad?
Have you ever wondered what life would be like without animals? Well I have.An animal is a living thing. I think that killing animals is a bad thing for all of us because we hurt mother nature. We will hurt her because mother nature made animals for a reason. So that's why we need to stop killing them. Here are my reasons why.
Firstly, if we kill all the animals there might be too many bugs, and bugs can be anywhere. We need animals to eat them for us so we don’t get eaten alive or get really sick. Little bugs like ticks can make you really sick.
Secondly animals belong to mother earth. We need to stop killing animals or else we might really hurt mother earth. We don’t win anything by killing them, do we? Animals belong to Mother Earth and all animals play an important role.
Finally, if we kill them we will never see them again. If people kill all animals of one species they will become extinct and that would be sad. If we kill the babies they mother will be sad and then they won’t grow up and become adults and produce more babies.
Animals are important to people in the World and to Mother Nature.
And that is why we need to stop killing animals. We need them.
